Up until now I’ve written several articles on how to add social buttons to WordPress sidebar, how to add two different vertical social media sharing buttons to WordPress, AddThis Smart Layers and WP Socializer. Today I thought I might talk about a third method for integrating social media sharing buttons on your website or a WordPress blog by using AddThis vertical floating social media bar, which is similar to Smart Layers only it’s not as complex as Smart Layers.
Three types of vertical floating social media bars are offered by AddThis, they have varying degrees of details that are available and they of course have three different sizes, like you can see from the screenshot above. All three types float with website visitors as they are scrolling through the page and great thing about these AddThis vertical floating social media bars is that they can be integrated onto any website, not just WordPress blogs.
Installation of the vertical floating social media bar is very simple, like everything else is when it comes to adding AddThis goodies to your website. You just need to follow the link that I’ve given down below, select which of the three available vertical floating social media bars you’re gonna be using, get the AddThis code and then copy it somewhere inside your website body tag.
For WordPress I’ve opened up the header.php inside the admin dashboard, to be more precise, inside the theme editor and copy-pasted the code right below the opening body tag. I saved the document and checked my website. AddThis vertical floating social media bar was there.
At the time that I was writing this, AddThis Smart Layers were active on my website (look to the left edge of the screen). If I don’t find something better to put there, the vertical floating social media bar that you see there will basically be the one that you get by adding the code from this article. The difference between what I’ve written about here and Smart Layers is that with Smart Layers you also get similar post suggestions, social page buttons basically the whole shebang.
